Happy national tea day to all of my fellow tea drinkers and tea lovers! To the non-tea drinkers I hope this post helps convince you to become one. Besides the most obvious fact about tea which is that it is absolutely scrumptious (okay maybe this is more of an opinion than a fact), but anywho, it is that there are many wonderful health benefits to drinking different types of tea. Tea has been used medicinally since 2737 BC, meaning it has been used as a method of healing for far longer than modern medicine. From relieving headaches, cramps, digestive discomfort, joint pain, inflammation; to improving skin health, gut health, metabolism, immune function; to managing blood sugar and stress. The list of benefits is endless. I could write thousands of pages on the different types of teas and what they can do for you. Don’t worry, I am not going to do that. I know y’all might not be tea nerds like myself so I will just give you an intro into some different types of tea and how they can turn your health right side up and make you feel fantabulous!
Ginger:
This is my personal favorite. Ginger contains strong anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antibiotic, and anti-nausea properties. This makes ginger the perfect cup of tea when you are looking to naturally relieve a pesky headache or nausea. It also increases immune function making you less likely to fall ill. Because of the anti-inflammatory properties, ginger is great for relieving joint pain due to inflammation. Ginger will also help you keep a flat tummy by improving gut health and relieving uncomfortable bloating. Also LADIES ginger will be your best friend during your time of the month. Drinking 1-3 cups of ginger tea during menstruation is proven to reduce bleeding, cramps, and even the duration of your period. The more frequently and consistently you drink it during this time the more benefits you reap.
Calamus Root:
Calamus root is also commonly known as sweet flag. If you are looking to reduce brain fog and increase concentration, calamus is your golden ticket. It is so effective that it is used with head trauma patients in clinical practices. Lost your voice? Drink calamus root tea. It is the go to herb for singers and performers. Highly effective at soothing and relaxing your vocal cords and trachea. Also great for acid reflux and digestive discomforts.
Mullein:
This is a wonder herb for all respiratory conditions and complaints. Highly recommend giving this bad boy a shot if you suffer from asthma. Mullein helps strengthen the lungs and thin mucus making it easier to expel. Also helps relieve constriction and tightness in the throat and lungs. Overall an amazing natural remedy for all forms of throat discomfort and lung conditions.
Blessed Thistle:
This herb is amazing for increasing circulation making it an ideal solution for relieving headaches, brain fog, and increasing brain stimulation. Blessed thistle is known for increasing breast milk production for nursing mothers. With that being said men don’t be scared to drink this tea, it doesn’t discriminate and has amazing benefits for both men and women alike. It actually promotes the detoxification of our skin making it great for calming inflammatory conditions like eczema and even acne. OOHH before I forget for all my peeps that enjoy having a few cocktails this is a great addition to your hangover regimen. It helps immensely by promoting the detoxification of the liver. Best to drink in moderation. The taste of the tea can be a little on the bitter side so it pairs excellently with chamomile or some raw honey!
Rooibos:
Super high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, rooibos has tons of interesting and awesome benefits. Drinking regularly can help lower bad cholesterol, regulate blood sugar, and regulate blood pressure. Drinking rooibos also stops the formation of new fat cells and boosts fat metabolism which is pretty much just a fancy way of saying that it helps you burn fat. Okay and my favorite thing about this tea actually comes after you have finished drinking it. Once you are finished, rip open the tea bag and rub the contents onto your face and use it as a mask. It improves complexion and reduces wrinkles, leaving you with a beautiful glow.
Pro-tip: Adding raw honey and a little squeeze of lemon can enhance your cup of tea making it more bright and enjoyable.
Thanks for reading, I hope you learned something and are on your way out the door to go buy yourself some tea. Happy sipping friends!
